Basmati Rice is a variety of long grain rice grown in India and Pakistan, notable for its fragrance and delicate. Its name means “the fragrant one” in Sanskrit, but it can also mean “the soft rice,” and the word coincidently means “my smile” in Arabic. India is the largest cultivator and exporter of this rice, followed by Pakistan; it is primarily grown through paddy field farming in the Punjab region.

Basmati Rice Recipe

Dry wash the rice with cold water until it runs clear then drain exhaustively. Heat oil in average saucepan over high heat until almost smoking. Add whole spices and cook, stirring until the spices pop. Add onions and cook, stirring until semitransparent, about 2 minutes. Add rice and cook, stirring until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Add 1-1 2 cups water and salt ; bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover tightly, and simmer right until all water has been taken over, about 17 minutes. Remove from warmth and let stand, covered, at least 10 minutes. Gently fluff with a fork, transferring the whole spices, and service.
